I got a present in the mail today. The best letter Jane Austen ever wrote — and, I would say, the only time she ever really got the narrative climax scene right, without any goddamn, infernally coy drawing-of-the-veil-over-the-lovers’-scene.

A Turn About the Room

There was this one sculpture in the V&A Museum in London. There’s this… veil. Over the statue’s face. It is, naturally, made of stone. Seriously? How do you even do that?
